Maui Speed Clinics
The speed clinics for 2009 are slated for Saturday August 8th, 15th and 22nd 2009, They will be held at the event site of the series, Kanaha Beach Park at the "Old Girl Scout Pavilion", also known as NAISH BEACH, from 12.00 noon to 5.00 pm. "This clinics are for newcomers to GPS speedsailing, returning racers from last year's series, and anyone who like go sail fast.
We cover sailing techniques and tactics to achieve the highest speeds possible. Participants should rig up prior to the noon start, then the course will alternate between short theory lessons on the beach and speed sailing exercises on the water. Participants progress will be measured with the same GPS "V-Max" speed units as used in the series and will be "a great opportunity to tune up and go faster", says Erik.
In 1988 Erik Beale was the first sailor in history to break the 40 knot barrier, he is the only member of the legendary "crossbow killers" who still speed sails. His most recent achievements include his British national record of 42.62 knots set in march 04 at the Masters of Speed and the highest speed award for the 2005 Navman speed series, 39.3 knots tied with Anders Bringdal. Erik continues to be one top Speed Sailor in the Maui Speed Series.

Participants should have all their own equipment, lifejacket or impact vest. A helmet is recommended. Participation is open to anyone on any gear. The GPS "V-Max" speed measuring units are supplied.

Hurricane Felicia
Hurricane Felicia has been down graded to a tropical storm but we are still expecting lots of rain, big surf and strong wind. The storm will arrive on Maui tomorrow afternoon. South shore beaches closed today at around 4:30pm as well as north shore beaches (Kanaha and Ho'okipa). All Maui county beach parks will be closed tomorrow and wednesday. Here is some additional info on the storm.
A High Surf Warning indicates that dangerous, battering wave will pound the shoreline. This will result in very dangerous swimming conditions, deadly rip currents and localized beach erosion.
EFFECTS: Easterly seas and swells associated with Tropical Storm Felicia will continue to rise this afternoon and tonight, and will remain elevated through Tuesday.

County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation:All County of Maui parks, Waiehu Golf Course, County campgrounds and swimming pools will be closed Tuesday. Facilities are scheduled to remain closed Wednesday; they will be reopened as soon as possible.

Come and join our one-day event, Sunday August 30th 2009. We are co-sponsoring a Women's kiteboarding Clinic with celebrity Pro-rider Clarissa Hempel. The clinic is open to all women kiters that are (IKO L3#) upwind riders with their own gear. The Clinic begins at 12noon till 4:30pm, We cover all skill levels of riding from cruising, basic jumping, boosting, wake-style, and spins. Numbers are limited so book early to make your reservation. The clinic costs just $50.00. We will have a photographer taking photos and will also have an after party at the Kite Club. Don't miss out on the fun!!
